‘SMRITI’ EVOKES NOSTALGIC ‘MEMORIES’
Mumbai, April 20: Smt Smriti Irani (the ideal bahu of the small screen, Tulsi) specially came down to Mumbai from Delhi today to campaign for Lok Sabha Speaker and Shiv Sena-BJP candidate from Mumbai North-Central constituency for the 14th Lok Sabha elections, Shri Manohar Joshi.
Smt Irani kept her word and came to Mumbai to campaign for Shri Joshi in spite of having fever because of the deep respect she has for him. A special meeting (chowk sabha) was arranged in the Nyaya Rath at Pallonji Shojpal Chowk, S K Bole Road, Dadar.
Local MLA, Smt Vishakha Raut, started with the introductions after which Shri Manohar Joshi addressed the crowd. Going back several decades, Shri Joshi nostalgically recalled, “Pallonji Shojpal Chowk has been visited by great stalwarts like Shyamprasad Mukherjee, Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi. It is a sacred place for us; and today, Smt Irani will have the good fortune of making a speech at such a prestigious and holy venue.” Shri Joshi repeatedly thanked Smt Smriti Irani for honouring his invitation, notwithstanding that she was unwell and having high temperature.
In her brief speech, Smt Smriti Irani said, “I am very happy and feel greatly honoured to make this speech today at a place which has been rendered sacred by the touch of the feet of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.” In a lighter vein, Smt Irani also remarked that if she did not speak here for the election campaign of the Honourable Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Manohar Joshi, she would not be allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha.
Stressing on the importance of the election, Smt Irani urged people to cast their vote without fail and to vote for Honourable Joshi Sir only.

Vibhag Pramukh Shri Vishwasrao proposed the vote of thanks.

MANOHAR JOSHI'S CAMPAIGN GAINS ACCELERATED MOMENTUM:
THREE SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS ON LAST SUNDAY OF CAMPAIGN
Mumbai, April 19: Lok Sabha Speaker and Shiv Sena-BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North-Central, Shri Manohar Joshi gave added thrust to his campaign yesterday, the last Sunday of campaigning, with three successful campaign meetings in his constituency at Dharavi, Antop Hill and Dadar, all in one day. Shri Joshi was deeply moved by the overwhelming response of the people in his constituency.

The meeting at Dharavi was organized by Ganesh Cultural Group as part of the election campaign. The big crowd at Dharavi left no room for doubt that Shri Joshi would be elected by a huge majority. Shri Joshi said that the Congress had been constantly putting obstacles in the development of Dharavi. Without naming Dharavi MLA and rival candidate Eknath Gaikwad, Shri Joshi strongly criticized the policy of the Congress party which reeked of double standards. He said that he had obtained a sanction of Rs 500 crore for the development of Dharavi from the centre and the Dharavi Development Scheme was to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself. But when the Congress saw that they could get no credit for this, they put obstacles in our way, said Shri Joshi. Not only that, they also played games to stall the Dharavi Sports Complex project. “But not any more,” asserted Shri Joshi, “no one can now come in the way of Dharavi’s progress and development. The Dharavi voters have woken up to these callous tactics of the Congress; and I am confident that they will teach the Congress a lesson in this election,” he confidently declared.

Shri Thiruvannakassur, Minister of State at the centre, was present for the meeting at Antop Hill. Shri Thiruvannakassursaid that Shri Balasaheb Thackeray was in the league of great leaders like Shri Kamaraj and Shri MGR; and Shri Manohar Joshi working under the guidance of such a great personality was a dynamic leader with a vision. President of the South Indian unit of the BJP Shri K Tamil Seswajani had organized this meeting at CGS colony. Addressing the crowd in Tamil, Shri Thiruvannakassur said that Shri Laloo Prasad Yadav had given a call that Shri Joshi should stand unopposed for this election. But Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde was unable to understand this. Had such a thing happened, it would have been a great step, he said.

The third meeting of the day was held at Kitte Bhandari Hall in Dadar. Shri Joshi called upon the party workers of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance to fulfil the responsibilities and tasks assigned to them faithfully. Shri Joshi said that there was no alternative to the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government. While the Sena-BJP groomed their followers into faithful party workers and provided them with jobs, the Congress was busy trading with other parties and did nothing for its party workers leaving them to fend for themselves, Shri Joshi said.

Vigorous door to door campaigns are also being conducted by Sena workers for Shri Joshi.

ENSURE THAT MANOHAR JOSHI RETURNS TO THE LOK SABHA,
HE WILL ENSURE THAT THE WOMEN'S RESERVATION BILL IS PASSED
- SUSHMA SWARAJ

Mumbai, April 16: "Some personalities are such that it is a matter of pride to ask people to vote for them, and Shri Manohar Joshi is one such personality. I feel honoured to stand before you here today and ask you to vote for him," exclaimed Sushma Swaraj at a special women's meet (mahila melawa) organized at Kamgar Maidan, Elphinstone Road this evening. The response to the meet was tremendous, so much so that women were thronging outside the ground.

Smt. Sushma Swaraj said that Shri Manohar Joshi had made great efforts to mobilize the women's reservation bill and tried his best to get it passed. He had also floated several schemes for the benefit of women. She called upon the huge crowd to vote Shri Manohar Joshi back to power by a huge majority so that he could ensure that the women's reservation bill would be passed. The senior BJP leader said that she was overjoyed to see that women had turned up in stupendous numbers for this meet while the response to such meets held by their opponents was very poor. It is rare to find leaders genuinely interested in the welfare of people. Manohar Joshi is one such leader, she said. Moreover he has done a lot for women's welfare. He organized two mega health camps in his constituency from which women benefited greatly.

The senior firebrand BJP leader launched an upfront attack on Sonia Gandhi. Would a lady who had not accepted Indian citizenship for 16 years send her son or nephew to the front to fight for the country, she questioned rhetorically. Yet Sonia Gandhi had dreamt of becoming the Prime Minister of India five years back, but that remained a dream and will always remain a dream; the Indian voters will see to that, she said.

Paying homage to great women like Savitribai Phule, communist party leader Godatai Parulekar and Anandibai Joshi, the first Indian lady to go to America for medical studies, Shri Manohar Joshi said that women had great power. They had shown their strength by assembling here in such large numbers; now this large workforce of women will be my strength and see to it that I win by a large majority, he said. He further expressed that it is imperative for women to be economically strong and independent. With this in mind, I have started the HMT scheme for handicapped women and widows in Dharavi and also started a tailoring scheme for women in Wadala, Shri Joshi revealed. "But above all, women must get equal power of governance as men so that they can govern shoulder to shoulder with them. Only the Shiv Sena-BJP has made efforts towards this cause," he stressed.

Shri Joshi expressed confidence that this time the voting percentage would go upto 60 percent as compared to 48 percent last time. He further said that after being elected, he would first hold a mahila melawa at Shivtirth.

Senior leaders like Kanta Nalawade (BJP), Sena MLA Vishakha Raut, Snehal Jadhav and Swati Shinde also spoke on the occasion while Manisha Kayande conducted the meet.

VINOD KHANNA PUTS IT TO 'JANTA JANARDAN'

CONGRESS KE SAATH KYA SULUK KIYA JAAYE???

Mumbai, April 13: Picking up a few lines of a popular song from an old film of his, star campaigner Vinod Khanna in his address yesterday evening to the gathering largely composed of Sikhs at Sion-Koliwada, put it to the 'janta janardan' - "We have unemployment, hunger, corruption and malpractices to speak of after 45 years of Congress rule post independence. So what should we do with the Congress? Maar diya jaaye, ke chod diya jaaye? Congress ke saath kya suluk kiya jaaye?" The audience responded with thunderous claps. Shri Vinod Khanna was here to campaign for Lok Sabha Speaker and Shiv Sena-BJP candidate from Mumbai North-Central constituency for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Shri Manohar Joshi. Interestingly, the name of the film was very patriotic - Mera Gaon Mera Desh.

He further elaborated that in spite of being in power right from the gram panchayat level upto the centre in Delhi, the Congress had done little or nothing for the development of the country over such a long period. But look at the stupendous work Atalji has done in just five years! No wonder there is a strong 'Atal wave' in the country and everyone is 'feeling good'. During Congress rule, when our ministers went abroad, they were not received warmly with honour, as they went to ask for aid. But the whole scenario has changed after Atalji became the Prime Minister of India. The image of India changed from an aid-seeking nation to an aid-offering nation. Now when our ministers go abroad, they are received warmly according to the protocol. Foreign countries are more than happy to extend a hand of friendship towards us.

The Congress did not allow the rural folk to progress and managed to remain in power due to the blind faith the uneducated villagers had in them. But even the rural folk have now become educated and wiser. They now know who can lead them on the path of progress. After struggling for so many years to free our motherland from foreign rule, how can a foreigner now become the Prime Minister of the country? So Sonia Gandhi has now brought her children into the political arena. She has clung to the Congress only to be in power. Congress rule spells dynastic rule. Why should we succumb to dynastic rule? The Congress government took huge loans, but never accounted for them. In contrast, Atalji's government believes in transparency. They provided the villagers of India with water, roads, gas, fuel and phones. Essential amenities were provided in plenty thus reducing black marketeering. Shri Khanna called upon the people to vote to power the Shiv Sena-BJP government, which would lead the country further on the path of progress.

BJP spokesperson and MP Shri S S Ahluwalia who was also present for the meeting said that if people want to see India as a prosperous self respecting nation, they must vote for the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance. Coming down heavily on the Congress government, he said that the Congress had pocketed 85 percent of the funds and resources from the central government and utilized hardly 15 percent for the country. But the NDA had implemented several schemes and projects for the uplift of the villagers of India. Atalji's ambitious project of linking the rivers of India would not only be of great benefit to farmers but also generate 50,000 MW of power. This would help small-scale industries to boom and generate employment. Atalji's bold decision of going ahead with the Pokhran atomic blast was a decisive step in stepping up the defences of the country. Shri Ahluwalia also criticized Shri Sharad Pawar for breaking and making alliances with Sonia Gandhi and the Congress party according to his convenience. He finally warned the people that one-day of lethargy would cost them dear. If they did not vote on the D-day, they might have to repent for the next five years. So he called upon the people to give their full support to the ideal Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Manohar Joshi, representing the Sena-BJP combine, which had proved its worth.

In his brief speech, Shri Manohar Joshi said it was imperative that the Sena-BJP government should be voted again to power to compensate for the grossly inadequate developmental work carried out by the Congress government. Dalit leader Aba Arekar said that the real threat to Dalits was from the Congress and Shiv Sena-BJP was their true friend. And so, all Dalits should strongly support the Sena-BJP combine adding to their strength.

LOK SABHA SPEAKER IS A STICKLER FOR RULES

Mumbai, April 12: Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi recently demonstrated that he is a stickler for rules and extremely conscious of abiding by the election code of conduct when he refused an interview with Star Plus after reaching the venue as they did not have the necessary permissions.

Shiv Sena-BJP candidate Manohar Joshi and Congress candidate Eknath Gaikwad, both from the Mumbai North- Central constituency, had been invited by Star Plus tonight at Shivaji Park for a live telecast in their program 'Kahiye Netaji'. The time was 10.30 p.m. Shri Eknath Gaikwad had already arrived before time with great aplomb along with his supporters.

When Shri Manohar Joshi arrived on the dot, he first enquired whether the necessary permissions required under the election code of conduct had been sought. It was found that the Election Commission had not given the required permission. A good crowd had already assembled for the program which was to be telecast live on Star Plus. However, when Shri Joshi learnt that the permission from the Election Commission had not been granted, he put his foot down and flatly refused to take part in the program. On the other hand, Shri Gaikwad astounded all present when he expressed willingness to go ahead with the program.

By taking this step, Shri Joshi has shown that he respects the law and will make no compromise when it comes to following rules. This small but significant incident goes to prove that the Lok Sabha Speaker sure is a stickler for rules and leads by example.

MANOHAR JOSHI PROVES TO BE A SAVIOUR FOR LAKHS OF LIC TENANTS

Mumbai, April 9: The recent landmark judgement of the Mumbay High Court in favour of the LIC tenants has come as a fitting grand finale to the relentless strategic efforts and able guidance of the Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Manohar Joshi, who was instrumental in spearheading the movement of the All India LIC Tenants’ Action Committee against their landlord Life Insurance Corporation of India. Heaving a sigh of relief in the wake of the reassuring verdict and now assured that the LIC tenants will not be evicted or homeless, the Committee has given full credit to Shri Manohar Joshi for his key role in their victory.

The LIC had hiked the rent astronomically under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupant) Act, 1971, which covers public sector undertakings (PSUs). Anticipating that the move might boomerang on them, they had also served eviction notices to some tenants. The tenants were thus living in constant fear and dread with the sword of forced eviction or a magnified rent way beyond their modest means hanging on their heads, rendering them either homeless or bankrupt. But acting on the advice of Shri Manohar Joshi and picking up courage due to his solid unfailing backing, the Committee knocked on legal doors for justice.

On 7 April 2004, the Mumbai High Court pronounced its historic judgement. Justice S Radhakrishnan and Justice V M Kanade ruled that guidelines issued by the Centre under the Public Premises Act and the government resolution from May 2002 to prevent such arbitrary use of power to evict genuine tenants from public premises have statutory force and stand binding on LIC. The judges also held that the stupendous increase in rent by LIC (500 times the original rent in some cases), was arbitrary and in violation of the Constitution.

The High Court ruling has brought immense relief to lakhs of LIC tenants all over the country and dealt a strong blow to LIC’s policy of unreasonable rent hike. Jubilant at this judgement, the All India LIC Tenants’ Action Committee has declared in a release that their success has been due to the constant guidance and consistent solid backing of the Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Manohar Joshi, in their struggle against the LIC over the past three years. The Committee Chairman Amarnath Kamat and Vice Chairman Subodh Sapre have heartily acknowledged that Shri Joshi has proved to be a true saviour for lakhs of LIC tenants and their families. They can now rest assured that they will not be deprived the secure roof above their heads. Shri Sapre further added that Shri Manohar Joshi was instrumental in obtaining an ordinance on 8 June 2002 against implementation of the Public Premises Act by the LIC.

SHIV SENA CHIEF IS NOT AGAINST MUSLIMS
- Manohar Joshi

Mumbai, April 9: "Hinduhrudaysamrat Shiv Sena supremo Shri Balasaheb Thackeray is not anti-Muslim. It was at his instance alone that the Shivshahi government procured a ground having a rental of Rs 2 crore for the use of the Muslim community in Bandra for a drastically subsidized rent of just Rs 2 lakhs. You will not find even a single instance of any Hindu-Muslim riot in the state during the Shiv Sena-BJP regime. The Shiv Sena chief has always been proud of patriotic Muslims of India who have love for their motherland," clarified Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Manohar Joshi at a function last evening at Qureishi Nagar, Kurla (E), as part of the election campaign for the popular election candidate of the Shiv Sena-BJP combine from Mumbai north-central constituency.
He further reiterated, "There was not even a single Hindu-Muslim riot during my tenure as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, because it is the leader who sets a precedent and people always follow the leader. The head of our family Shri Balasaheb Thackeray is the chief of the Shiv Sena and our leader. We are fortunate to always work under his invaluable guidance. He has always assured us that he has full faith in Muslims and we need not worry about any kind of threat or danger from them. He has shown such large heartedness and love for our Muslim brethren by seeing to it that they could get the maidan in Bandra for public use at a grossly subsidized price. How then can Balasaheb be anti-Muslim?"

When we found that the Muslim fraternity was cramped for space for offering their daily namaaz in the masjid, the Sena-BJP government immediately decided to expand the open area in the masjid. Yet the Congress made a false propaganda that we are against Muslims and tried to create mistrust and misunderstanding. We have always strived to see that Hindus and Muslims live together and share a strong fraternal bond not only in Maharashtra but all over the country. With these words, Shri Joshi thus made matters crystal clear.

On a more emotional note, he said, "Whatever heights I may reach in my career or wherever I may go in the country, I shall never forget the people of Qureishi Nagar who have always showered me with so much love and affection. If I take into account the love, support and good wishes I have from all the communities, I am confident that I will win by a margin of three lakh votes."

Former Labour Minister Sabir Sheikh said that while Shri Manohar Joshi was Chief Minister, he spread a strong feeling of friendliness and brotherhood in Maharashtra among all communities.
Prominent Shiv Sena leaders Advocate Liladhar Dake, Habib Faki, Bashir Mulla, Suryakant Mahadik, Chandrakant Vishwasrao, Ramzan Ali, Swati Shinde, Ramesh Joshi and Anuradha Pednekar also addressed the audience on this occasion.

NARENDRA MODI DEMANDS TO KNOW
WHAT HAS THE CONGRESS CONTRIBUTED TOWARDS THE NATION'S PROGRESS?

Mumbai, April 7: The British rulers are remembered for introducing the railway in India. Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be remembered for the vast network of roads all over the country. Atalji set the country on the path of progress linking the whole of India with good roads. But what is the contribution of the Congress, Narendra Modi demanded to know, while speaking at an election campaign for Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi at Matunga.

Describing Shri Joshi as a Shiv Sainik and Atal Sainik, Narendra Modi said that the coming elections were crucial and it was imperative for the future of the country that people vote Shri Joshi and Atalji to power. We have already shown what a non-Congress government can do for the country, he continued. All Prime Ministers before Atalji were either Congressmen or followed the Congress ideology. Atalji established a new tradition and proved that even a non-Congress government can govern the country ably and bring about a revolution. When the citizens of India voted the Congress out of power in 1998, there was some apprehension as to whether we would win and govern the country for a full five years. But five years down the line in 2004, the scene is entirely different. Citizens have full confidence in us.

The Congress has never allowed anyone to rise. They have a history of being destructive. But now with a handsome growth in the GDP, the nation is poised to zoom ahead on the path of progress with complete confidence. Atalji was acclaimed worldwide for his creditable breakthrough in the tussle between propagators of brotherhood and peace and supporters of terrorism. The whole world is impressed with India's achievement in this arena, he said.
Attacking Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Narendra Modi questioned, " Why did she wait for 30 years after marriage to become an Indian citizen? While filing her nomination, she has declared that she has residential property worth Rs 12 lakhs in Italy. Why? Something's fishy here. When one billion people are 'feeling good' why is it that only Miya Musharraf and Madam are not to 'feeling good'", he thundered.

Modi posed two questions to the Congress. Why is the Congress making efforts to get the guilty in the Godhra carnage released in spite of their inhuman act of burning alive innocent kar sevaks? This itself shows the character of the Congress. Again Congress has welcomed into the party Sayyed Shahabuddin, a person who took a controversial stand in the Shahbano case. Does the Congress agree with his line of thinking? Let the Congress answer these two vital questions.
Modi called upon the voters to make the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance victorious all over the country. Apart from Shri Manohar Joshi, the function was attended by Babubhai Bhawanji, Chandrakanta Goyal, Pratibha Malvi, BJP district President Ravji Gala and other volunteers in the constituency.

An election which will decide the future of the country in the 21st century

Taking the dais, Shri Manohar Joshi said, "This election is a decisive one which will lay the foundation of the country for the 21st century and determine its future. This election is an election which will be a true reflection of democracy, nationalism and patriotism; and so everyone must entrust the country to a dynamic personality par excellence like Shri Atalji, a true supporter of humanism. And for this, you all have to vote for the Shiv Sena-BJP.
"There really is no need for us to impress upon the people to bring the National Democratic Alliance to power once again. If we simply splace before the people our achievements in the past five years with what the Congress has done in the last 35 years, there is no doubt that they will vote for the Shiv Sena-BJP only," proclaimed Shri Joshi.
Vibhag Pramukh Chandrakant Vishwasrao, Swati Shinde, Ramesh Joshi and other dignitaries were also present for this campaign conducted by Anil Trivedi.

ONLY MANOHAR JOSHI CAN GIVE A NEW LEASE OF LIFE TO DHARAVI
                                                                                                                                  - DREAM GIRL HEMA MALINI

Mumbai, April 6: She came, she saw, and cast a magic spell on all present…..
“It is only Shri Manohar Joshi and none other who can give a new lease of life to Dharavi,” proclaimed Hema Malini in chaste Tamil and the mammoth crowd at Dharavi cheered with gusto. The dream girl had the Dharavi residents spellbound with her beautiful oratory. She further went on to announce that Shri Manohar Joshi would get a record number of votes in the country.

The response to the rally organized at 90 ft road, Dharavi, on the eve of April 5 on Monday for Hema Malini to address her Tamil brothers and sisters was more than overwhelming. People simply flocked in large numbers to catch a glimpse of this ethereal beauty and Basanti of the all-time blockbuster Sholay.

No sooner had she greeted the crowd with Vanakkam in Tamil, than the whole of Dharavi reverberated with shouts of ‘Manohar Joshi zindabad’. When the local Tamil representatives crowned the dream girl and Shri Joshi with the traditional South Indian crown, people just couldn’t stop clapping.

Hema Malini spoke like a veteran in politics. Referring to Shri Kamaraj’s photograph in the neighbouring Congress office, Hema Malini interjected, “Had Kamaraj been alive today, he would certainly have joined the Shiv Sena-BJP combine. Some years back, I used to pass through Dharavi in my car. And what I remember about Dharavi are the narrow roads, filth and stench. But today, the picture is completely different. This has been made possible only through the efforts of ‘Sir’, Shri Manohar Joshi. But a lot still needs to be done for Dharavi. You people need good houses, gardens, playgrounds, and Sir will provide you with these. Dharavi will also have a school, hospital and wide roads. Sir has obtained special sanction and funds from the centre for this purpose; so you can’t even think about voting for any candidate other than Sir.” The crowd went into raptures listening to this call of Hema Malini. The Tamilian men and women started dancing and cheering lustily flashing the victory sign and raising slogans.

Shri Manohar Joshi responded with matching faith and vigour. “Seeing you wonderful people here today has quelled any worry I may have had about my victory,” he said. “As Speaker of the Lok Sabha, I look upon Dharavi as a miniscule India. People of diverse castes and cultures reside in this region. I consider it my bounden duty to give them their rightful due and elevate their quality of life. Hema Malini has set a precedent lending a touch of beauty to Dharavi by coming here today. And we are now going to make Dharavi even more beautiful through our developmental work,” he concluded.
